BLADDERS ON ETSY

No, this is not an entry about shopping 'til your bladder threatens to pop. It's about finding bladders on Etsy, proof enough for me that if it can be thought of, it will be created and sold on that most eclectic of websites.

I know what you're thinking. Why on earth would anyone be looking for bladders, on Etsy or anywhere else, for that matter? Well, in my case, it's because my DH had five, count 'em, five bladder tumors removed this Tuesday. There was supposed to be just one, but the CT scan lied. They're cancerous, but the doctor thinks they got all of it, and to make certain of that, they'll do some chemo of a rather strange (to me, at least) variety: A liquid infused with inactive tuberculosis germs will be put into the bladder, causing the DH's immune system to freak out and come rushing to destroy the germs, at which point the white cell minions will discover any cancer cells lurking and destroy them, too. That is the plan, and the doctor seems quite confident in it.

Three more finds:

Dr Kilmore's Swamp Root Bladder Cure (Mary's CrochetnMore)

Bladderwrack Pendant (CorryVrecken)

"I Laughed So Hard" Magnet (CrossEyedCatGifts)
Looking for bladders on Etsy taught me another thing: Bladders, unless they're the plant variety, seem to be inherently funny. I mean, honestly, can you even say, "bladders on Etsy" without smiling?

FRIDAY FENCE POST #54

The house is quiet. Mom, unlike her energetic usual self, went to bed about an hour ago. I am awake by sheer force of will, which you may feel free to call plain, pure, stubbornness. What is it about moving sales that makes them so tiring? (And why does 'stubbornness' have a double 'n'? It looks weird to me all of a sudden!)

Anyway, Mom and I ran the sale all day today, with people wandering through the house. Lots of laughter and talking, a fair amount of haggling over prices, and a bunch of phone calls to the DH about pricing tools and ladders and the like. Thank goodness, he'll be here tomorrow to handle the stuff in the garage.

So I didn't get to get out and take any photos of fences this week. Instead, I did an Etsy search, to see what they had to offer in the way of fences. Answer: Cool stuff!

From Gynx:

And I saved this one for last because I noticed first that it was really cute, second that it featured fairies, and third that the artist shares my same first name, which I thought was Way Beyond Cool, so from AnitraBear:

And on that note, dear reader, I will carry myself off to bed, which for this weekend is a sleeping bag on the floor. Only a few more days of this to go! (Then we will donate bunches to a charity, and move the good stuff to my home in Portland, where we will have another gigantic, enormous, gargantuan sale! And it's all good, isn't it?)

POOR SICK PUPPY!

Okay, so my head is full of my little dog Ceili today. (Say that, KAY-lee; it's gaelic for a musical gathering or party.) Ceili had surgery on Tuesday, to remove bladder stones. Poor little baby! I couldn't believe how big some of the stones were--one was bigger than a robin's egg!

She's been very quiet since I brought her home yesterday, but her appetite is picking up, and I finally figured out she'd get her antibiotic down if I pulverized it and mixed it with a little of her food. Here she is, in her own little parking spot:

And I figured as long as I was doggie-brained today, I'd see what I could find in the way of Scotties on Etsy. Aren't these great?

Last, and not least! My two Sweeties

IT'S CAT HERDING DAY!

Today is CAT HERDING Day. The last time I wrote it was National Cocoa Day, and I found coco-related items on Etsy and did an Etsy mini of them. I thought today I'd go looking for cats that looked like maybe they could use a little herding, and do the same. Little did I know that putting a new Etsy mini in would erase the old one! Ah, well. I'll figure some other way to do it some other time.

In the meantime: Cats That Need Herding!

ME? INDULGE IN A NEW CRAFT?

Oh, there is just nothing like learning to do some new, crafty thing! Last week, I decided it was time I learned to make wire-wrapped rings. Once I got the knack of it, courtesy of the wonderful tutorials on BeadingGem's blog, they were like potato chips for me. All I wanted to do was try different beads and play with them, and by the time of the Feast on Art sale, this past weekend, I had several dozen made.

Yesterday, I photographed a bunch of the ones I had left from the sale (yes, they did sell well!), and put them in my Etsy shop:

I finished putting the rings online at about 10:15 pm, last night. By the time I got up this morning, that last one was in an Etsy Treasury! That was a smile-maker, let me tell you.

PACKAGING FUN

I've been selling patterns in my AniWatersprite shop. It lets me pass along patterns, and puts money in my PayPal account, but do you know what I like best about it? I love packaging them up to send!

Today seemed like a good day to show one of them, ready to go into its mailing envelope:

My packaging has kind of evolved, until I'm basically gift-wrapping each pattern before slipping it into its Manilla envelope. Usually, I put in a little extra, too--a pretty button, usable ephemera, or somesuch.

How do you package your things? What tips/hints would you give?

ETSY, BABY!

So, my DH and I are expecting our first great-grandson. The baby shower is next Friday, and I have been shopping. Is there anything to give more joy? I mean, shopping for baby things is, for me, so much fun that I even shopped for my ex-husband's first great-grandchild! Of course, I was with my daughter, which turns anything we do into a party, but anyway...

What I was going to say is, I was having so much fun shopping that I decided to show off what I found. No, I did not buy everything you'll see on this page. These are just things that made my mouth go round, and a little ooh come out. And they're all on Etsy, so they're all handmade, which gives them that little extra-special something. Look:

It's an eclectic group, for sure, and I do have favorites. I love, love, love the cupcakes! They're made by folding onesies and bibs and washcloths to resemble cupcakes, and packaged as though they were. I mean, how cute is that?!

Then there's the emergency rock star kit, and the retro-cool guitar set, and that darling little hat...

And all the while, I have to keep reminding myself that while it might be coming on Fall here, it's late winter/early spring in New Zealand. Can't be sending the baby down overalls for summer!

Oh, but it is fun, just the infanticipating. I'm smiling and smiling.

Almost forgot! Clicking on an image will take you to the Etsy shop where you can see more about it, and also see what else that seller has.

I GOT A TREASURY! & ALSO LEARNED....

I snagged my second Etsy Treasury yesterday, almost accidentally.

For those who aren't familiar with Etsy, a Treasury is a collection of favorite items in Etsy shops. There are pages and pages of them, and it's fun to look at what other people have liked enough to put into one. Click here to be taken to the Etsy Treasuries department. You'll notice that you can sort the lists by title, expiration date, popularity (Hot), and curator (the person who created the treasury).

So, first of all, here's how it works:

There are a limited number of Treasuries allowed at any given time, with one Treasury per person. You go to the Treasury list, sort it by Expiration, and go to the page where the ones that are going to expire soonest are listed. At the very bottom of the page, it will tell you how many Treasuries there are, and, almost always, point out that they're all full, and more will open up when enough of them expire. (I think there have to be fewer than 333.)

If it's getting close to the point where new treasuries are going to open up, make a note of how soon. Within an hour or so? Don't go too far away! Leave the page open if you can. Don't refresh it; it does that automatically.

When there are fewer than 333 Treasuries still alive, that little message at the bottom of the screen will suddenly change, and there'll be a box where you can type in the title you want for your Treasury. Be ready with your title, and pounce fast, because there are going to be a few hundred other people trying to do exactly the same thing!

After that, it's easy. Sort of. If you've thought ahead, unlike me, you'll already have your choices saved in your "Favorites" area in your Etsy profile. Otherwise, you can do a search, on tags, titles, colors, users--anything you want. It's way fun, for me at least.

This is a picture of my Treasury:

I didn't put in a clickable image because the Treasury will expire Friday, but here are links to each of the featured artists:

So, I said earlier that I learned by putting this Treasury together. What did I learn?

The first should have been a no-brainer: Make sure you're logged into the right account! I meant to do this as CoffeePotPeople, which is my "regular" Etsy shop, and failed to notice I was actually logged on as AniWatersprite, which is my place to destash (get rid of art supplies and stuff, or sell what doesn't fit with my other shop). Ah, well.

The other thing I learned was about the importance of photography. It took a long time to find enough items with photos that filled the frame, were interesting, and/or had backgrounds that were interesting and would mesh with my theme.

If I were going to summarize it, (and I am!), I'd say this:
  1. Get close, maybe even too close. You have four other photos for each listing that will let you zoom out and catch the entire piece.
  2. Make sure the lighting is good--not too dark, not too light, no extreme shadowing, and if possible taken in natural daylight.
  3. Be ultra-aware of the background. Choose it carefully to get the effect you want. It isn't "beside the point" because it will either add or detract from the attractiveness and pull of your piece.

And now, not "back to work", because in my opinion this IS work, but off to other tasks. I have GOT to get pictures taken (see above, lol) and create some new listings. I don't even have enough to fill up my Etsy Minis right now! (That says both good and bad things, yes?)
